History of the Troop

Eagle Scout | Scoutmaster

Troop 122 in a historical troop on Northwest Arkansas, began in 1927 and continuously active until 1987. The troop is a chartered organization since 1993 obtaining its 75th charter on January 1, 2007.

For many years the troop has been a “flag ship” in Westark Area Council and many of its members have gone to become leaders in Rogers, in Arkansas, and beyond…

The troop believes in providing a quality scouting experience to every boy as exemplified in 85 boys who have been scouts with the rank of Eagle while in the troop. Over 1100 boys have been part of the troop over the years.

Scouting has existed in Rogers from as early as 1915. Central United Methodist Church sponsored a troop in the pre-World War II era, but records have not been located prior to 1948. When First United Methodist Church retained the downtown property of the church the troop remained with First United Methodist. In the 1980’s the troop was briefly chartered by St Andrew’s Episcopal Church and has met at other churches on occasions.

The troop has close ties to Camp Orr. Members of the troop helped locate Camp Orr, and attended the camp from 1955 to the present. Several of the youth and adults of the troop have served on the camp staff over the years.

Every scout can testify to the fact that many campouts have been weather experiences. The rain, snow, floods, and even tornados have been part of the out door experience. More than forty crews from the troop have participated in high adventure at Philmont, Summers/Northern Tier, and Sea Base over the years, and several scouts have been to Jamborees and National Order of the Arrow Conferences. The troop has been known for its history of camping, including over three hundred scouts having high adventure experience.
